Out of nothing something

It’s a game I play

It’s what I always say

When I’ve prepared a meal for us

That cost us little effort

Without the hassle of shopping

Of course we would have done

The shopping some previous day

But not purposely for today

So I search out the fridge

The carrots past their use by date

Would go well with the disheveled ginger I have

Some chilli paste and chopped shallots

The larder stocked with chicken cubes I use

Don’t tell the vegetarians that I cheat

I also found an open coconut block, a small piece should be enough

And after a gentle fry

It’s put to boil

Until it’s ready for the wizz

Puréed into a smooth soup of the day

Do we have any bread you ask

Check out the freezer,

It’s frozen, I add, stating the obvious

It should thaw by the time we sat down, you said

And of course I added

Out of nothing something,

Instead!
