My boots got heavy

On the pathway that led us away

From St Mary’s Magdalene Church in Flauden

Downhill towards Latimer

My boots got heavier still

On the muddy and chalky pathway

Nearly lost my footing on the way but I kept going down Flauden Bottom!

And when we arrived at Latimer Village

No longer in Hertfordshire but in Buckinghamshire

We turned back for our uphill climb

Back towards Flauden

To the Bricklayers Arms

Muddy boots and all, so sorry!

For our delicious luncheon date,

And thankful still that it had not rained,

And storm Isha not yet arrived,

And can you imagine the same walk

On a sunnier warmer day!
