Malta Carnival 2023
It was a long wait for the bus at Birkirkara Station last Sunday afternoon and before I gave up and drove to Hamrun to try my luck there at getting to Valletta in time for the Carnival celebrations, I found these words to express my sentiments of the afternoon!
I did not imagine I would see your parade of floats, or giant animations, costumes designs, the rhythmic music or your dance,
My visit was held up by some other scope, busy as I was, I did not bring my dancing shoes,
I did not expect to dance!
And without a costume to revel in your delight,
I was missing your embrace, your gathering
your procession.
But when I found my escape
on Sunday afternoon,
I found the roads jammed and gridlocked.
Others too, determined as I was
to just perhaps have the last dance with you,
jumped off the bus and walked
from Bombi to Castile.
Scooters ahead of me,
I found my pace,
and came to find
the party was still in full swing
to the music of “Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good”.
Some floats were making their way uphill,
and I caught the eye of some of the
dancing crew,
and I joined them in their rhythmic beat,
their fancy costumes, confetti and pink candy floss!
And I was grateful for this pleasure,
This Sunday afternoon!
