There was never a cross word spoken
Whenever he picked up his pen
“Hope to read your mind,
Eight letters across”
More like me wishing to read yours
I thought
Wishful he wrote
“Quietly drifting apart, we rarely speak”
Seven letters
It’s what I sometimes say
I thought
D I S T A N T he wrote
I’m almost done he muttered
“One company keeps close”
Nine letters
I haven’t got a clue
The crossword is not something that I do.
“One company keeps close?”I asked
“Companion” he said,
“That will do”
“Companion” I repeated, “Really?”
“Would you like some tea?”, he asked with a smile,
“Before we watch something on TV?”
