Carnival Time!
February 2018 - I cannot quite recall my early memories of carnival time. Was that me in Valletta so many years ago, somebody's balcony overlooking the show? Quite possibly so! But this time I took to the streets, surrounded by people who were certainly colourful and proud!
The greatest of the rain storms
The torrential rain
Pelting rain
Pouring abundantly
Wet rain!
And the winds too,
Gusting and squalling
It was never a moderate breeze
When the strong gusts of wind turned into storm.
Torrentially wet and sodden
This island can take no more,
Thoroughly wet through and through
And reminiscent of the greatest storm
Of a thousand years ago!
What will become of the colourful costumes, the carnival floats, the music of the bands and the dancing parade?
We wait and anticipate
And clear blue skies finally draw in
And the sun makes its appearance
Teasing out its gentle warm embrace
Enough of wet and staying indoors
The umbrellas are folded and the parasols are out on Republic Street Making friends again!
And the Carnival King makes his announcement The music band begins to play The carnival floats are on their way!
At last it's carnival time!
And already I’m dancing!
