Making changes
I am totally drawn to the reflections evoked in the writing of Margaret Drabble, Jerusalem the Golden; the newfound freedom embraced by Clara on arriving in London and her encounter with Clelia, dazzling, brilliant and so different to Clara's background; "her wasted hours of battle with her own desires; she resented her failed and needless attempts at empire, she was filled with hatred at lost anticipation. Now that she was to go she knew that she might have had the pleasure of looking forward to going, instead of such long and cheerless debates and equivocations".
It's not time to make a change
Just relax, take it easy
You're still young, that's your fault
There's so much you have to know
Find a girl, settle down
If you want you can marry
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy
I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy
To be calm when you've found something going on
But take your time, think a lot
Why, think of everything you've got
For you will still be here tomorrow
But your dreams may not
How can I try to explain
Cause when I do he turns away again
It's always been the same, same old story
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away
I know I have to go
It's not time to make a change
Just sit down, take it slowly
You're still…
Lyrics by Cat Stevens, Father and Son from Tea from the Tillerman 1970
KM103 (on route to Malta)
Looking forward,
With restlessness,
I say.
Can't keep still.
For the moment now
Will be gone
And tomorrow I must know.
And if I let tomorrow surprise me,
I will be unprepared.
So?
Youthfully looking forward I was once told when life was young,
Now I'm growing old.
I watch the lives of others unfold their ambition and passion in the mix of life.
It need not stop with my age.
Age
Be kind to me
Let your wisdom
Carry me.
