People make places

I asked a few people to describe me. One friend captured me in three words "enquiring, intelligent & empathetic". My daughter assigned me "vivacious, passionate & loving". I love natural and architectural beauty, geometric lines, reflections, and the narrative people bring to a story. On originality, it would seem that there are so many pictures of flowers one can take and yet another image of the same can be so different as I have seen from Emma Davies and the contributions of others on our photo journey! I can say the same on food photography - there are so many, too many! And then I discovered the collection of images created by @her_dark_materials on Instagram and images on food become a work of art; the quality of chiaroscuro is second to none and so remindful of the impact chiaroscuro has on the story of art. Or the artful display created by @foodphotographyprops also on Instagram, simplicity becomes original and refreshing once again!

I love travel photography, abandoned buildings, street art, colours and sharp images too. I have waited for the moment a person or people would walk across my frame - and then shoot! - giving the image a different dimension. There is movement and energy. The landscape belongs to the people! And so I turn to my album from January this year. This picture is taken in the night-time at City Gate Valletta, Malta. This latest design by Renzo Piano gives the entrance to the Capital City a complete overhaul making for a majestic entrance. In this image, you can see one of two gently sloping flights of steps to each side of the new gate; the stairs in this image link to the bastions of St James’s Cavaliers. I love the sharp shadows, the movement of people, the hurried walk and the late-night busker making music in the stillness of the night.
