Why do I take photographs?
On composition - giving elements to my image breathing space - at an abandoned building in Ta Qali Malta
I'm asked why I like taking photographs? My pictures are simply another means of communication, a memory bank or a record of my life changing but they serve something more than that. They're an extension of me. On how I see life. What I've observed. What I've noticed. The beauty and the ugly. Still life, landscapes, open spaces, architecture, foods, family and friends - they come easy and do not cause upset. Some may contain an artistic element, some require thinking to the composition or others are the product of a lucky moment captured! But I lack the courage to capture, to steel, the human face of the unknown man, woman or child, their raw emotion, whatever I see. So I come from afar and hurry away.
